Rumors of a PlayStation 5 Pro have been circulating for some time now, fueling excitement among gamers about potential upgrades like enhanced performance, 8K support, and improved ray tracing. With anticipation building, there's one question everybody wants to know the answer to: when is the PS5 Pro coming out?

Sony has historically launched its console upgrades a few years after the base model, so, understandably, fans are eager for news on the PS5 Pro. Well, fans might not need to wait any longer following Sony's latest announcement... here’s a breakdown of everything we know so far.

Does the PS5 Pro have a release date?

Although Sony took its time before confirming rumors of the PS5 Pro, the console almost every gamer knew was coming has now been announced.

Sony's latest update confirms the PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024, bringing with it a whole host of new upgrades. These upgrades include:

  • Upgraded GPU: The new GPU offers 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory, enabling up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: More powerful ray tracing was added to provide more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. In short, rays are to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: The PS5 Pro introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This AI-driven upscaling uses machine learning-based technology to provide sharper image clarity by adding extra detail.
  • PS5 Pro Game Boost: Allows more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games to be playable on PS5 Pro.
  • Expanded Support: The latest wireless technology (Wi-Fi 7) as well as variable refresh rate (VVR) and 8K gaming are now supported.

How much is the PS5 Pro?

Heading into the holidays, the PS5 Pro will cost the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of 699.99 USD, 699.99 GBP, 799.99 EUR, and 119,980 JPY.

Included in that price is a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and Astro’s Playroom pre-installed. Unfortunately, though, the PS5 Pro is only available in digital format. However, you do have the option of purchasing the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately if you wish.

Is the PS5 Pro available to pre-order

Although the PS5 Pro's release date has been announced, it's not available to pre-order just yet. However, that is due to change soon...

From September 26, 2024, gamers will be able to secure their console in time for its launch via PlayStation Direct and at participating retailers in areas where PlayStation Direct isn’t available. Following that, pre-orders will open up to all other participating retailers on October 10, 2024
