Is the PS5 Pro Available to Buy?

The PS5 Pro is a console that has been rumored and speculated as arriving for a while now, joining Sony's ranks as the next PlayStation console to launch before we enter the new era of what will presumably be called the 'PlayStation 6'. Those rumors have intensified as of late too, leading gamers to question if the PS5 Pro is available to buy, and if it's not, when will it be?

It's not a silly question either considering we're now into the latter half of the year, and early speculation suggested 2024 was when the Pro would hit the shelves. Perhaps it has already? Let's find out...

Is the PS5 Pro out and available to buy?

Sorry to disappoint, but the PS5 Pro is not available to buy at the time of writing. In fact, there's been no word from Sony about when or even if it's on its way. However, there is plenty of speculative evidence out there that points towards the PS5 Pro launching in 2024, possibly even sooner rather than later.

Let's start with an article from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming from July 2024. The article mentions that PS5 games released after 15 September 2024 might need to support a potential PS5 Pro console. However, that information shouldn't be taken as confirmation of its release and its release date. Tom Henderson goes on to say a release in the latter half of November 2024 is a possibility, and that the console could be announced during the 2024 Tokyo Game Show (starts 26 September 2024). This is all because Sony is scheduled to be there for the first time in five years, which strongly implies it has something up its sleeve.

Ultimately, this is all just educated guesswork until an official announcement from Sony is made. Still, the rumors of a PS5 Pro are exciting, so let's delve deeper into the speculation to take a punt on when the console might become available to buy.

When is the PS5 Pro available to buy?

When the PS5 Pro will be made available to the general public all depends on its release date and whether or not Sony will open pre-orders before its launch. All of that information remains unconfirmed, yet gamers can still make educated guesses about the answers based on previous trends.

Now, everybody remembers how heavily the PS5 was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although readily available today, stock was initially scarce due to a global chip shortage. As a result, there's very little information from the PS5's initial launch that could indicate if and when the PS5 Pro is on its way. The launch of the PS5 Slim, on the other hand, might be a little more telling.

Back in November 2023, Sony announced and almost immediately set pre-orders of the PS5 Slim and its disk-less counterpart as live. This happened only a week ahead of the launch of the two models, which roughly fits the narrative of all the rumors surrounding the PS5 Pro's announcement and subsequent launch so far.

Let's say all of the rumors are true. In which case, the PS5 Slim could be announced towards the end of September, and then be made available to pre-order a week or so ahead of its launch in November 2024. Whether or not this happens remains to be seen, especially as there are also rumors that the console is delayed.
